Rare Chinese Sancai Glazed Carp Form Ewer

Ming dynasty, 16th/ early 17th century


Of realistic form, the carp posed leaping from crested waves.
Height: 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm.)
Ewers of this type are also known in crayfish and phoenix form and are among the earliest porcelains to come to the West.  Examples are in historic and important Western collections including the Rijksmuseum, the Taft Museum, the Baur Collection, and Pusat Museum, Jakarta.
