Rare and Superb Pair of Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Nodding Head Figures

Qianlong period, ca: mid-18th century

Description

Depicting two Court Ladies, and forming a true pair, right and left.  Each finely modelled and with a removable nodding head. The Ladies are dressed in long light blue robes with reserves of landscapes in pink and blue.  Each holds a handkerchief in one hand and rui scepter in the other.
Of exceptionally fine quality.
Height: 16 inches (40.5 cm.)

Figures of this type and quality are extremely rare, particularly to have survived as a pair. An almost identical pair are in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London: gift of C.N. Ades, 1978.
