Of fine form, decorated with reserves of Court ladies sitting in garden; the neck with floral decoration. The underfoot of each bearing the rare G mark in underglaze blue. The vases with polychrome decoration that were added in Europe likely in the 19th century. These types of vases display a Middle Eastern influence though many were in European collections from the time of their manufacture. The unusual mark has been studied without conclusion as to its meaning but is assumed to be either a special cipher for a merchant or kiln mark of some sort. G-marked porcelains are a valued collecting niche in Chinese export porcelain. To find clobbered examples is rare and a bit “sacrilegious” by today’s collecting standards.
