Fine Chinese Carved Soapstone Figure of a Reclining Lohan, Pindola Bharadvaja

17th/ 18th century


Finely carved in the full round, presenting the Lohan reclining and leaning upon a rock with right hand raised and held around his head.  A tiger sits peaceably next to him as guard with his face looking u towards the figure.  Finely and ingenious carved incorporating the skin of the stone that forms the rock and much of his robes.  the stone of mostly yellowish/ beige tone.
