Fine and Rare Pair of Chinese Qingbai Glazed Funerary Vases and Covers

Southern Song dynasty, ca: 11th/ 12th century

Description

Each finely modeled and with attached animal and figural decoration around the neck and shoulder: the first with a tiger (symbol of earth); the other with a dragon (symbol of heaven), and with cranes (symbolic of longevity) and reclining figure.  Each surmounted by a conical shaped cover with crane finial.  Jars such as these were likely used to hold wine.
