Combinations of specific flowers and plants in Chinese decorative arts were not only meant to convey a beautiful combination of forms and colors. The Chinese words for the various flora often had synonymous meanings for long life, success, beauty, and other ideal and complimentary meanings that would be wished upon the owner of the object.
