Chinese Carved Wood Head of a Bodhisattva

Ming dynasty, ca: 16th century


Likely depicting Guanyin. 
Finely carved in the full round, wearing a crown and hair done in an elaborate chignon.  Her face is sensitively rendered in a calm disposition.
Retaining considerable vestiges of gesso and polychrome decoration.
Height of Head: 15 inches (38 cm.)
With base: 19 3/4 inches (50 cm.)
